Aim

Course Outcomes :  Zoology

Students learning outcome in subject of Zoology

In Subject Zoology, the program aims to 

F.Y.B.Sc. Paper I Animal Systematic and Diversity I and II:

Impart an understanding of the basic concepts of modern zoological science

Deepens this understanding of zoological concepts and develops a range of expertise over the main areas of the subject. 

Principles of classification: They learn to have an overview of animal biodiversity and be able to identify major animal taxa- classification.

Study of Paramoecium: understand the morphological and behavior of paramecium

Study of Earthworm : understand the habit, habitat and economic importance of Earthworm

Salient features of following classes with two examples of Pisces, Amphibia

Study of Frog: understand the morphological characters of Frog

Migration in fishes

Parental care in amphibian, 

neoteny in amphibians. 

 

Paper II Cell Biology

Students will be able to explain how organisms function at the level of the gene, genome, cell, tissue, organ and organ-system

Based on knowledge of classification the students must be able to give specific examples of the physiological adaptations

Basic nature and structure and function of cell and cell organelle

Paper II Genetics:

In genetics students of FY gets to tackle detailed problem-solving and analytical tasks associated with pure and applied zoological questions. 

The students are also expected to learn about team work in field and study tour.

Genetics: Concept and application of Genetics

Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the experimental techniques and methods of analysis appropriate for their area of specialization within biology.

S.Y.B.Sc- Paper I and II: Animal systematic and diversity:

Salient features of following classes with two examples of Arthropoda, Mollusca, echinodemata with examples.

Study of Starfish: habit, habitat, digestive sysyetem, water vascular system, reproduction , larva

Types of foot in molusca

Types of mouth parts in insects

Salient features of following classes with two examples of Reptilia, Aves and Mammals with examples.

Modifications of beaks and feet in birds

Poisonous and non- poisonous snakes 

 

S.Y.B.Sc- Paper II Applied Zoology I and II:

The knowledge about Application of Zoology like importance of beneficial insects, fishes and it’s by products is gained in Applied Zoology.

Fisheries: Habit , habitat, culture aspect of fresh water fish, economic importance

Agriculture pest and its management, study of different types of agriculture pest w.r.t marks of identification, life cycle, nature of damage, and its control measures.

Apiculture: habit, habitat, and types of honey bees, life cycle, colony organization, bee keeping equipments, bee diseases and enemies, products of honey bee keeping

Sericulture: types of silk worm, life cycle, rearing techniques, procurement of seeds, moriculture, harvesting method of cocoons, composition of silk, diseases and enemies, industrial process of silk, uses of silk.

Study tour to different institute for firsthand knowledge of rearing and processing of honey
